Rock Rugged Road Trip Pt. 3 // Widgeon Falls

Read Pt. 1 // 2

While in Vancouver, we had the opportunity to stay with the incredible photographer, Elizabeth Gadd and her dog Adventure Pepper, as well as her photographer friends Shane Black and Joel Schat. These are some of the coolest people I have ever met, and bonus, they took us on my favorite adventure of the trip - an hour canoe ride up a river lined with mountains, followed by a hike to one of the most beautiful waterfalls I'd ever seen.

The journey started at a breathtaking lake called Pitt. We all gathered our supplies then pushed our little boats out into the water. Delaina and I had the misfortune good fortune of getting to share the only canoe, which made for some serious laughs (like when she paddled me right into a tree). While the canoe was a challenge, we worked together well (she was very patient with me...) and made some of my very favorite memories.

The canoe trip took about an hour and then it was time to hit the trails. Now this I was good at! Adventure Pepper and I took off at a run towards the end, because we were too excited to wait for the slow-pokes that lagged behind us (sorry, guys). As we ran through the forest, I felt like I was in a fairytale. Moss was everywhere, and the trees seemed to be animated with human-like faces. We ran down the man-made steps and then came through the final patch of trees to be greeted by Widgeon Falls.

Since I was completely unprepared for this trip, I had not packed a swimsuit. But I loved being the picture taker for everyone else that had thought ahead. Some of them braved the icy waters and did some cliff jumping, while others just took quick dips in the pooled areas. And then all too soon, it was time to head back. We ended our day with Japanese food and boba tea, then hot showers and bed.

to be continued...

*Note* Since i was traveling with two incredible photographers, I decided to let them do the camera work, and I stuck to photos with my phone, only. As soon as I'm done with my iPhone recap, I'll be sure to post some of their beautiful work!
