DIY Pumpkin Masque

The second recipe Sarah and I have for you- is a Pumpkin Masque!
Photobucket
For this Masque, you will need:
-1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
-1 cup of pumpkin
-2 tbsp of honey
The reason for the ingredients:
Pumpkin- packed with antioxidants, it will fight against free radicals which cause aging
Greek Yogurt- the glycolic acid will cause a brightening affect in your skin
honey- super hydrating

This stuff smells like cookies!! It didn't quite taste like them, but Indie, Sarah's dog, sure did like to eat it! We had to do everything in our power to keep her from licking it off of our faces. Obviously, you'll need to refrigerate the left overs, or reduce the quantity of the ingredients.

DIY Mint-Rose Toner

When Sarah contacted me about getting together with her to make "a week of beauty" posts, I was thrilled! Of course, coming up with our own beauty products sounded like a blast! But a day hanging out with Sarah was why I really said yes. She's definitely on of my favorite bloggers, and has been since I found her blog over a year ago. So we came up with 5 different beauty recipes, makeup tips, hair do's, and/ or skin care products. All so easy you can do them from home.

First up, Mint-Rose Toner.
Photobucket

To make this toner, you'll need:
-a small spray bottle
-water
-witch hazel
-rose water
-mint leaves

The reason for the ingredients:
Witch Hazel- reduces oil and tightens the skin
Rose Water- rose is incredibly hydrating
Mint Leaves- cooling and soothing, helps reduce puffiness

And when I say "you will smell like roses all day", I'm not even kidding! In fact... I even just spritzed it on before I went On-Air the other day, just so I would smell good! haha! And as Sarah said, feel free to spray it on throughout the day for a Skin Pick-me-up! We always need those.

Check out Sarah's post and be sure to check back for more tips soon!

As Seen On TV

Yesterday I was super duper lucky, lucky enough to promote my esthetics business as well as the new salon I'm working at, on tv! Mady (the esthetician I'm sharing a treatment room with) and I prepped for the camera, discussing what we would say and who would say it.
Photobucket
Take a look!
Look at my gorgeous models! They are all such good friends and all did so well. Plus I got to hang out w them for a few hours! It was a win win.

Photobucket
Oh you know, just hanging out on tv.
Photobucket
It was an absolute BLAAAST and I can't wait to do it again!

What pictures and video won't tell you:
I scheduled each of the models 1/2 hr apart. Giving me plenty of time to get their on-air makeup done (it's more than day to day). But that meant I had to be at my salon at 5am to do Aly's makeup. I am no good at waking up before 7 these days and was woken up at 5:40, thanks to Mady's call. In a rush I did my hair and drove as fast as I dared to the salon. I was supposed to car pool with Aly, so I called her as I was driving to the salon (bad example! I know), but she didn't answer... I called probably 10 times, still no answer. So I just moved on, and tried not to stress.

I got there at 6:20 (an hour and a half after I was supposed to fyi) and whipped out 4 makeup applications- including mine. None of which were tv ready makeup. I had to just let it go, because it was time to head to the tv studio. Just before it was time to leave, Aly made it to the salon! Whew! So off we went, to the studio.

We got there right on time and I had plenty of time to do Aly's makeup. Thank goodness for Mady who helped touch up the makeup and get the girls started when I was late. I know it wouldn't have happened without her.

After all the makeup was done and we had time to sit and think about what we were going to do, we started getting nervous. Those who have known me my whole life know that I am a shaker. When I get nervous, I shake like crazy, and this situation was no different. Hands trembling, lips quivering, I was so worried that's how I was going to be on-air! But somehow, my old performing skills (developed through years of dancing) kicked in and I was just fine! In fact, I had a blast and wanted to go again! haha!

So "next" time, I don't think I'll be as nervous, and I'll set my alarm to go off 15 times instead of 10...

Frozen Hot Chocolate

Who likes Hot Chocolate? Everyone. Now, who likes Frozen Hot Chocolate?? Everyone should!
Photobucket
I found the recipe HERE (and changed a couple things) and, HELLO, it's amazing. Pretty sure I'll be making it every Sunday...
Photobucket
3 tbsp granulated sugar
3 tbsp hot cocoa mix
2 tbsp unsalted butter
1/3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/3 cups white chocolate chips
12 ounces evaporated milk, divided
4 1/2 cups ice
whipped cream, to taste
mini marshmallows, to taste

combine sugar, cocoa mix, and butter in a pan over medium-low heat. stir often until just before it's melted and a smooth paste forms. add semi-sweet and white chocolate chips; stir. as chips melt, slowly stir in 1/2 cup of evaporated milk. stir until smooth. cool to room temp. combine chocolate base mixture, the remaining evaporated milk and ice in a blender (always put ice in first. I keep making that mistake). blend until smooth. pour into frosty glasses. top with whipped cream, marshmallows and chocolate chips, if desired. enjoy!
**I prefer a big dollop of Whipped Cream and Rainbow Sprinkles, plus a pretty straw!
Photobucket
Let me know if you try it, cause it's amazing!

Little Moose

If you know me, you know that foxes are my favorite animal. Always have been. But let's be honest, I'm a sucker for any woodland animal. So when I saw this Moose scarf in on Teaka Marie I HAD to have it.
Photobucket
I've only had it for a few days, but I've worn it each of them.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
It is incredibly soft and warm. I just know this is my new favorite scarf. You know, the one I'm going to be wearing in every blog post from now until Spring.
Photobucket
Photobucket
We had a ton of snow over the weekend, but it's almost all melted by now. I kind of love that about this time of year. I love the snow, but then I want it to be warm again. So I get a bit of both.
Photobucket
Photobucket
I really just think this is going to be my go-to outfit this season. This shirt is from Sexy Modest and I've been wearing it way too much. The key to that is to just not see the same people... haha!
Photobucket
Give me a moose scarf and some freshly fallen snow and I am a happy lady!
Photobucket
Like the scarf? Be sure to come back tomorrow for a very special giveaway from Teaka Marie!!

Meeting Mindy

Last Wednesday I was able to attend a small Mindy Gledhill Concert! Not only was that amazing, in and of itself, but it was held at one of my (if not THE) favorite boutiques- Dear Lizzie! This place is adorable. I used to work here, and I still miss it. Maybe I'll go see if they need some part time help... hmmm. haha!

Anyways, Mindy was AH-MAZING, her voice is so beautiful. She's one of my very favorite artists. So I loved having the opportunity to meet her. I'm also a seat snob (which I'm pretty sure I've mentioned before) so my mom and I made sure to get there plenty early!

We saved our seats then took a gander around the shop. I found this GORGEOUS lace princess coat, and yup, I put it on layaway. (can't afford it right now) Then once it was time for the show, we all received little sugar cookies (which are the best I've ever had, no worries. I'm surprised I didn't gain weight when I worked there...), there were bowls of pink jelly bellies on each table, and the music was to die for. I also loved that it was such a small and intimate setting.
Photobucket
Of course, if not for my sister, then for you guys, I had to get a few videos of my favorite songs. Be sure to check out her music if you haven't already. She's sure to become your new favorite!

LOTM- Hiking Gear

This is a very special Ladies of the Mountains post. Why? Because it is the first time we're having a guest Mountain Lady join us!! Woohoo! From now on, each month we'll have a different mountain lady joining us. So look out for lots of fun!
Photobucket

Today for LOTM we are sharing our favorite hiking items. I'll be honest, I'm not one who has a closet full of gear. Old tennis shoes, worn out tshirts, and jeans with holes in them is how I roll. Maybe one day I'll be a fancy hiker.

BUT I do have one thing that I always take with me. The Autoseal Contigo Water Bottles. These things are awesome. Granted, camelbacks or something similar are great for long trips. But for hikes like THIS one, these are perfect.

You don't have to stop to take off the lid on your water bottle, or touch the straw to close it with your dirty hiking hands. One push of a button= water. Let go of the button= automatically sealed. I don't even just use these for hiking. I use them all. the. time. Plus, they come in awesome colors.
They also have ones that hold the necessities that you don't want to carry while on a run, here!
So there you have it, my favorite hiking item! Be sure to check out the other mountain ladies!

Up to the Mountain

A few weeks ago my friend, Mikelle, and I decided a hike was in order. We didn't have a ton of time, so we just headed to a nearby trail. It's also one of my favorites.
Photobucket It was the peak of the fall colors. Perfect time to get outside!
Photobucket
Photobucket
Couldn't help it.
Photobucket
As we approached the meadow, we looked over to see two does hanging out. We didn't scare them off, but a dog, belonging to some hikers coming down the trail, did.
Photobucket
I tried my hardest to get a good running shot of them, and this is as good as it got.
Photobucket
I like this one too.
Photobucket
Gorgeous right? The trail is under a canopy of leaves the whole time.
Photobucket
And when it's not, you have views like this.
Photobucket
And at the top? There's a gorgeous waterfall and this is only a small part of it. I didn't get a picture of the large fall.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Our feet were hot from the hike and dirty from the dry trail, so we decided to cool and wash them off in the river. It was ICE cold. But it felt so good. After the first sting it wasn't that bad. We wanted to just jump in... but I was a little worried about the light, so it was time to head back down.
Photobucket
Photobucket
Down in that valley is where I live. nestled up against the mountains. How did I get so lucky?
Photobucket
Photobucket
Chances are, if you come to visit me- this is the hike we will be doing.
