What Time Is It??

First- I know I need to do a post of Hermione and I when we looked alike. But I am in Alaska... and I don't have access to any of my childhood pictures. But I PROMISE that it will be at the TOP of the To-Post list when I get back in a couple of weeks!

***

I've been meaning to do this post for a while. I really wanted a video to go along with it. But I just don't have the tools I need here with me in Alaska to do that. Plus all the ones I tried making are... terrible. haha! So you get a photo! Yay!

I always have people ask me if it REALLY does stay light all the time- the answer is sort of. This is NO JOKE what it looks like at midnight in Alaska as of now.

There are times during the year and parts of Alaska where it really is daylight 24 hrs. per day. But once it hits June 21st the days start getting "shorter" in most parts of Alaska. So they'll get an hour or two of semi-darkness and gradually it becomes more.

When I first flew in a couple of weeks ago it looked as if it were early morning and almost made me ready for the day until I looked at the clock that read 2 AM... It can be confusing.

And to go along with this- yes there are definitely times and parts of Alaska where it is dark 24/7. But that's in the dead of winter, I've never experienced that. The first two times I came up here it was semi normal because it was late winter/ early spring and late summer/ early fall.

But there you go! :D A genuine picture of the Alaskan sky at midnight!

I love the land of the midnight sun! It gives you so much energy and makes you want to stay out all night enjoying it! You should have your sister take you out to the sand dunes at Kincaid Park to jump off

It's crazy to think about it being light 24/7. I'd imagine you'd get used to little sleep, as it'd be hard to fall asleep when it's still light out! But darkness all day long, I don't know if I'd be able to deal with that. But then again, here in Oregon the rainy season makes it pretty grey all day long. Close, but not quite. I have to get up there and visit Alaska! It sounds so unique!

I love the picture!
That would be crazy confusing to have it light outside for the majority of the 24 hours. And it would be oooh SO depressing to have it dark 24/7!

Wow this is a gorgeous photo but I don't know if I could handle the light sky at night. I guess you have blinders on your windows? So crazy! But I really want to go to Alaska and experience the beautiful wildlife!

I love Alaska and I can't wait to go back. I went in August so there was a few hours of semi darkness. It's definitely such a great place! Enjoy your time there!!

Oh my gosh, that's crazy. I heard about the whole having daylight all day for a few weeks in the summer. That has to be insane to see in real life.

I wouldnt be able to get my kids to sleep the sunsets at 8:45 around here and its a bedtime battle around here because the sun is still out!

Thanks for all your sweet comments! I can relate, I'm in Northern Alberta, Canada (it's about the same latitude as Juneau, Alaska) and it is so weird having so much daylight, it's so hard to sleep at night! My sleep schedule is so off. But it sounds like where you are you have even an extra hour or two of it.

Some people may think that is depressing but I think it would be so neat! You could nap whenever you wanted! And go to drive-in movies anytime! ha
